Executive Director

Position Summary
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the execution of the mission and strategic plan of the organization through fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. The responsibilities also include overseeing the development and operation of the programming and classes, as well as the management and retention of the current staff.


Major Accountabilities
Program Development and Strategic Planning (30%)
• Oversee the operation of the program including student recruitment, selection, and follow-up.
• Responsible for the implementation of STAR’s programs that carry out the organization’s mission.
• Ensure through student selection that quality students are given the quality education to prepare themselves for successful lives and careers.
• Coordinate the development of additional services and programs within the Foundation’s mission statement.
• Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components to measure successes.
• Develop an annual business plan for Board approval at the annual meeting.
• Ensure and foster an environment of diversity and inclusion.


Fundraising and Community Outreach (40%)
• Develop new funding sources and contacts/alliances.
• Oversee and ensure all aspects of communications—from web presence to external public relations (such as news releases and mailings) with the goal of creating a stronger brand.
• Build and maintain partnerships with local businesses, funders, and political and community leaders.
• Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities.


Financial Management (30%)
• Supervise the fiscal management of a $250,000+ annual budget, including accounting, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, expenditure requests and reimbursements, and financial reports to the Board and grant sources, including reviewing and prior approval of reports from the Board and review/approval of all disbursements.
• Administration of all funding programs and initiatives, including grant applications or proposals, written or verbal, grant administration, and reporting.

• Grant proposal writing and reporting, with attention to prospecting new grant sources, meeting deadlines, and fulfilling submission requirements.
• Develop and administer the Foundation’s annual budget.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

 

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, social sciences, management, or equivalent related experience.
• Proven skills in written and oral communications; ability to write speeches and articles for publication, ability to effectively present information to top management and public groups.
• Experience in project management and proven ability to prioritize and balance competing demands.
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate diverse groups and relate personally and professionally to individuals and groups from all walks of life in a manner that inspires respect and confidence.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, develop and present new creative ideas and skills.
• Knowledge and understanding of fiscal management responsibilities and compliance in a non-profit organization.
